Brechin Court is a small cul de sac in the beautiful suburb of Duncraig which has been zoned to R60 by the City of Joondalup with very few residents being aware of this until development started in their family street.

At last Tuesdays Council meeting an application for a 3 storey 13 apartment development was narrowly refused by Council. CJ190521 7 Councillors supporting Councillor Fishwick’s motion to refuse and 5 were against refusal. In the short term a great win for the residents of this cul de sac but now they wait to see if the applicant appeals to the State Administration Tribunal (SAT).

If the applicant appeals to SAT the Director of Planning confirmed that the “overarching document” for assessment would be the newly released Design WA.

A further 16-unit development on the neighbouring sites of 8 and 10 Brechin Court is also currently being considered.

At the same Council meeting Mayor Jacobs requested a report as soon as possible on the provision of a Local Planning Policy (LPP) based on the recent LPP drafted by Taylor Burrell Barnett for the review of infill in the Housing Opportunity Areas.

Residents of Brechin Court are now hoping that the proposed development controls in the Local Planning Policy are put in place as quickly as possible so they can then look forward to appropriate levels of infill development in their cul de sac and full support from all the ward Councillors.
